Bio

My name is Johanna and I am a folklorist. This means that I work with intangible culture that is used in different ways to communicate what we humans hold important in our lives. Among other sources, folklorists work with texts and interviews, music and handicraft. Folklorists are in general interested in traditions, but we also work with present-day culture.

One of my areas of special interest is intangible cultural heritage (ICH). I am very interested in why certain cultural expressions are conceived as especially valuable and how one goes about to try and safeguard such that cannot physically be touched. I also work with UNESCO's 2003 convention on the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. Finland ratified this convention in 2013.

Would you be interested in engaging me or to be in contact for some other reason, you can reach me through the form on the "contact" page.
